Computer Managed Instruction

Telemedicine SmartBoard

Craig Cutler showing Hawaii Governor Ben Cayetano how interactive whiteboards allow doctors and students to communicate over satellite to pacific rim locations using our integrated programming. American Multimedia was a sponsor of the second annual TeleMedicine conference at the University of Hawaii in 1997.

Computer Managed Instruction (CMI), can be designed and developed for a wide variety of application venues including Computer Based Training (CBT), Web Based Training (WBT) and Distance Education.

American Multimedia is a total solution provider and systems integrator of self-paced training programs, (Tele)courseware, and on-line reference systems.

These learning systems are cross-platform compatible and client updateable. We can produce applications to inform and receive feedback from employees, prospects, customers and shareholders with delivery options for the Internet, LAN's, CD-ROM and other media.

Our services provide a system of integrated, open, and scalable learning tools and technologies, which are programmed specifically for your management needs.

Intelligent streaming and software technologies now allow us to provide segments of web-packaged pieces before they're needed - even over low bandwidth connections.

In order to meet your mission-critical training challenges, programs are developed with the following component architecture:

  • Network Infrastructure
  • Communication Tools
  • Interactive, multimedia content

Network Infrastructure

This component is the fundamental framework with a main menu that will launch and integrate communication tools and/or content.

Learning modules are created and designed to be media-rich and module-based.   Program applications incorporate a balance of text, graphics, audio, Video-on-demand, and database functionality for testing, recording and reporting results. CD-ROM-web hybrids offer a way of combining disk and network delivery.

Communication Tools

A training network can contain three separate applications to handle communication between students and instructors, other students, or a remote training center:   E-mail, Chat rooms, and discussion group bulletin boards.  Security can be incorporated through software encryption, language controls and network firewalls.

Content

Instructional content and tutorials are designed to provide a high degree of interactivity.  Within each module students may encounter self-assessment questions, simulations, instructional games or puzzles, or other items that force them to be active learners.

Instructional modules can also contain the following features, which will be available to the learner at all times: Glossary, help, clipboard, reference bookmarks and student tracking, which are also available to the training manager.

Corporate models can be designed to include content for orientation, safety training, seasonal employees, upgrade certification for candidates seeking promotions or other programs as directed by project managers. Educational models accommodate integrated courseware with components for faculty, technical staff, webmasters and students.

Project needs assessment

Technical specifications for servers, student computers, and development languages will be identified in a needs analysis.  The instructional systems design will progress through the classic steps of system analysis, program design, development, delivery and evaluation.

American Multimedia can provide services as a main contractor, sub-contractor, or forge a true partnership or alliance.  The considerations of up-front development costs, lowering breakeven points, ROI and project timelines all factor into a production arrangement.
